A Different Kind of Splash Pad

Chet took off yesterday afternoon to go help at the Night to Unite event across the street.  They had all sorts of fun things for the kids to do, including a bouncy castle, a practice session with the firefighters and endless pizza, hot dogs and Dilly Bars.  The kids could only watch from the window as all the other kids in town had fun, as I wasn't able to pack them up and go over there in my condition.

"Look at how much fun the other kids are having."  Avery whined.  "And here I sit."

I was glad when the storm came rolling in.  Then no one wanted to go anywhere besides the basement.

This is the picture Chet took of the incoming storm during the event.  No big deal.  Just spinning clouds overhead.

After the kids were in bed, Chet came home with a box of goodies for them.  I decided to make it like Christmas and set it up on the counter so they would see it when they woke up.  I know, I'm such a nice mom.

Needless to say, emotions were at an all time high when they came down the stairs and found their goods.  Who knew stress reliever police cars and temporary tattoos would be such a hit.

I thought it would be good to start the day off on a positive note.  I was feeling good so I decided to pack the kids up and run some condition-friendly errands around town.  I let the kids run into the library to pick out a few books.  A library run keeps them quiet for a few days so I figure while I finish preparing for baby's arrival (hopefully this weekend!), they can sit and zone out into their books.

While the oldest two got lost in their Boxcar Children and Lego Adventure books, Milo and I snuggled in my bed.  Piper was off playing house by herself.  After the snuggling didn't lead to him falling asleep in my arms as I had planned, I let him go play before I put him down for a nap.

As I browsed the Facebook garage sale sites, Tucker and Piper mentioned something to me about a toothbrush in the sink.  I think I replied with, "Mmm, hmmm." and kept scrolling.  Once I got up to use the bathroom, I saw what they were talking about.  Piper's toothbrush was down the drain.  She had pulled the drain plug out of the drain and stuck her toothbrush down there.

She followed me to the bathroom, I'm sure knowing what I was about to find.  I looked at her after I had discovered it.

"I need a new toothbrush."  she said.  "Mine is too yucky."

After I fished out the toothbrush with a wire hanger, I sat down again to fold some laundry that Tucker and Avery  had hauled up the stairs for me.

"Mom!"  Piper shouted from the bathroom.  "Milo is playing with pee!"

Tucker leaped up to go investigate.  "He is, Mom!"  he confirmed.

I came around the corner and sure enough, Milo is splashing in the little potty that Piper had just used without telling me, sending pee all over the floor, the cabinet, the wall, a stress reliever police car, himself and just having a jolly old time.  I screeched like any normal person would react to such a situation and he started bawling.

I got him cleaned up in the tub and he continued to cry as he made his way upstairs for his nap.  He decided to make a pit stop at the table, where the rest of his lunch remained.  Still crying, he stuffed part of his peanut butter sandwich into his mouth, then picked up his pink blanket and kept going.  He walked up the stairs, crying, mouth still full, touching the wall with every step, leaving peanut butter hand prints on the newly painted wall.  He climbed into his crib, clinging to his pink blanket.

Poor thing.

After he swallowed his peanut butter sandwich, I kissed him goodnight and shut the door.

As I started to walk away, I heard him say, "Mom, book.  Please?"  I opened the door again and asked him what he needed.

"Book.  Please?"  he asked, so nicely.

Of course he could have a book after what he just went through.  I gave him his Little People On The Farm book and kissed him goodnight again.  I can't help but savor these last few days with him as my baby.

Real Manly, Chet

It's hard to find the time to blog these days.  I figure once life slows down a bit, I'll start taking more pictures and adding more posts.  But to those I tell that too, they ROFL.  Life doesn't slow down. Chet and I try to squeeze in as many dates as we can, as we hardly even see each other during the week.  Our date on Monday evening started out deciding on a place to eat.  I have to comply with my Weight Watcher's points and Chet is trying to put on weight. So you tell me.  Where do we eat? We ended up getting a Jimmy John's for me (I could eat half) and an Arby's meal for Chet. We were off in search of summer clothes for Chet as his previous summer wardrobe has consisted of clothes he wore to confirmation camp.  In other words, old and out of style.  As I browsed the racks at the store, I noticed something.  Had we just held onto his confo clothes, they would be in style again. His doc warned him that if he didn't start wearing a...

Summer Boredom

Summer boredom is in full-swing for the eldest child of the family.  If I had known it would be this bad, I would have enrolled her in summer school.  I've been laid up with a work injury and have been ordered to take it easy for the rest of my pregnancy so I haven't been the most fun mom to hang around these days.  I mostly give orders from the couch.    My poor children haven't been able to have the summer they had been dreaming of all winter. Like Avery said, "This is the worst summer ever!"    The few days of rain we just had made the ancient wooden door frame of the deck door expand, making the screen door close to impossible to close without slamming it shut.  Avery has been doing most of the slamming as I am mostly incapable of such behavior and one of the times she didn't see Milo on the other side, trying to get in.  His finger got slammed in the door and it swelled to Timbuktu.  Chet brought him into urgent care a few da...

Boo-Falo Days

Every year, fireworks come to town on a Friday night.  Since I work every Friday night, I only hear them rattling the windows on my resident's rooms.  Well, sometimes I peek out the blinds and see one or two go off and then reassure my resident that no sir, we are not being bombed.  It's only Buffalo Days fireworks.   We haven't ever been able to bring the kids down to the lake to watch them but who needs to when you can see them from our street corner? Chet let Avery stay up late and he brought her outside to watch them.     And of course, the carnival also comes to town, one block away.  I coughed up $20 bucks on Saturday and treated the older kids to three rides each.  The nice, toothless man allowed Piper to ride for free on this one, as long as I went with her.  And as long as I wouldn't tell anyone.  Oops.  And he said I had to sit in the back because I wouldn't fit in the front. There was a parade o...
