Miloseola

I'm getting a new roof!  Thanks to this handsome guy and the help of his brother and some friends, the roof is almost complete.  Our old roof was damaged by wind and hail and our gracious insurance company sent us a check for a new one.

I had grand plans one night to have a little picnic with Chet up on the roof, under the stars, but I got up to the second to last rung on the ladder and panicked.  I don't like ladders and I don't like heights.

I opened my purse the other day and noticed that my camera was turned on.  Then I looked through my pictures and found this particular one.  I know I'm not a great photographer, but I don't think I took this one.  The feet look too large for Avery or Tucker and last I checked, Milo can't operate a camera.

Speaking of Milo, he ran a temperature on Saturday during the wedding.  I noticed some red spots on his tummy that day and Sunday, but Monday morning when he woke up, they were everywhere.  As the day went on, the spots got more red and spread to all areas of his little body.  I brought him in, just to be sure, and the doc said it's a virus called roseola.  Usually, with roseola, the baby will run a really high fever (104 or so) for a few days, then a rash will appear for a few days.  I remember writing a paper about it in nursing school, but Milo's temp only lasted about 8 hours and didn't seem like it was that high, although I never got a chance to take it.  The doc said some of the newer strains are weaker, which is good.  He's not contagious anymore; they're only contagious when they're fevering.  But poor thing looks like an acne-scarred teen.

But he is cute.  He doesn't look like the other kids and every time he smiles at me, I giggle because he looks like a little old man.

We don't have central air, and probably never will, and we have survived the last 5 summers with AC window units.  They're better than nothing, but the one in our bedroom is loud.  So loud that I can't hear the kids upstairs during the night. Most nights, I keep it off and sweat it out just because it drives me crazy.  Last night was particularly warm, so I had no choice but to keep it on.

Good thing for Avery, who came downstairs at 2am to tell me that Piper was bawling and bawling and wouldn't lay back down.

Piper, the bedding and the crib were covered in vomit.  I picked her up and also became covered in vomit.  We both bathed and I got her settled onto the couch.  She cried for quite some time and wanted something to drink.  Her crying woke up Milo, who decided he could use a 3am feeding.  I think I crawled back into bed around 4am.

Piper's zipping around here this morning, acting like nothing's wrong, but I'm waiting for the next kid to get it.

Real Manly, Chet

It's hard to find the time to blog these days.  I figure once life slows down a bit, I'll start taking more pictures and adding more posts.  But to those I tell that too, they ROFL.  Life doesn't slow down. Chet and I try to squeeze in as many dates as we can, as we hardly even see each other during the week.  Our date on Monday evening started out deciding on a place to eat.  I have to comply with my Weight Watcher's points and Chet is trying to put on weight. So you tell me.  Where do we eat? We ended up getting a Jimmy John's for me (I could eat half) and an Arby's meal for Chet. We were off in search of summer clothes for Chet as his previous summer wardrobe has consisted of clothes he wore to confirmation camp.  In other words, old and out of style.  As I browsed the racks at the store, I noticed something.  Had we just held onto his confo clothes, they would be in style again. His doc warned him that if he didn't start wearing a...

Morning Glory

Our new morning routine consists of everyone waking up at 7:30am, me and Avery showering, everyone dressed and out the door by 8:30am.  It's a great excuse not to workout; there's just no time.  Darn.  I pile everyone in the stroller and we make our one block trek to Avery's school.  Yesterday, I walked her up to the school doors and let her walk in by herself.  I watched her walk with confidence down the hallway until she was out of sight, her empty backpack bouncing around on her back.  This morning, I walked her to the corner and let her cross the street by herself, with the help of the crossing guards of course, and watched her disappear into the crowd of kids who were getting off of the bus.   The teacher who was monitoring the crossing smiled at me and said, "She's so little."   Tell me about it, lady.  She's too little.  I found this pic as I was rifling through my camera.  I always chuckle at Piper's teet...

They'll never forget

Chet was invited to participate in a September 11 program at the high school yesterday, along with all the Buffalo firefighters, police officers and reserves. I didn't work so I thought I'd come along with the kids and cheer them on. I dropped Chet off at the doors. The kids and I sneaked in as the honor guard was marching and hollering and we found ourselves a seat in the back, next to the exit in case anyone had a meltdown. The auditorium was about half full, with most guests being middle aged. The only children that were there were all older than five and knew how to sit still for an hour without making a peep. Let me tell you, this room was silent. As the opening prayer was starting, my kids were starting to get restless. "Mom, who is that guy?" "Shhhh!" "Bow-wow!"   Tucker roofed . "Tucker! Shhh!"  I hissed. "SCREAM!"  Piper had to put her two cents in. "Bow-wow! Bow wow!"   Tucker said...
