We brought the kids downtown last night to Macy's eighth floor auditorium to see A Day in the Life of an Elf. It's family tradition to visit Macy's every year at this time but I'm thoroughly disappointed they are choosing to keep recycling the elf story. It was more exciting when it was something different every year.
When we were approaching Minneapolis, Avery began gasping, amazed at the tall, tall, tall skyscrapers. Tucker immediately squashed her excitement, stating, "It's MY city." Apparently, when you have surgery to get your tonsils removed, you own whatever city the surgery took place in. Good to know that.
When we walked in, Avery began spinning around in the snowflake lights projecting from the ceiling. Piper and Milo stared, slightly confused and poor Tucker took one look, then started to step away. I'm sure it's confusing, watching these people who look like people who aren't people move back and forth. He wasn't sure if he wanted to go or stay.
Then we got in line to see Santa. He had been talking big all week about how he was going to sit on Santa's lap and tell him that he wanted 300 more trains for Christmas so that if he lost some, he would still have a lot. But once we entered the room where Santa was, he changed his tune. He was beyond terrified and flat out refused to look at Santa. Milo was less than impressed as well, but the girls had no problem.
It was hard to get a good picture on our cell phones; we were only allowed two photos. And I'm too stingy right now to buy the ones the photographer took, although there was an adorable one of Avery telling Santa what she wanted. He made her laugh and she put her hand on her cheek and laughed with him. I might cave and go buy it online later. Her list was lengthy; a white, wooden doll house with all the "assories", a Doll Hospital book collection, a Disney Princess Barbie, a toy kitchen with a sink and pink ice skates. Santa's reply? "Well, that's very specific."
She may be one disappointed little girl on Christmas morning.
